Default Meal worm storage

I bought a bag of freeze dried meal worms online at amazon. It is a 30 oz bag and at the rate of one per day for each hamster this bag will be around forever. What is the best way to preserve and keep them fresh. Can I use a foodsaver vacuum sealer and put them in portion size bags or freeze them?

That's a lot of mealworms!
Putting them in an airtight bag or box is the best thing but don't freeze them as they have already been frozen when dried so shouldn't be refrozen. You could keep them in the fridge though.
Due to the high fat content they won't stay fresh indefinitely so you probably won't be able to use all of those before they go off, they should be good for a couple of months but I wouldn't store much longer than that.

They won't last as long as it takes your ham to eat them, I'm afraid! You can save waste by offering them to wild birds though!

You could do lots of things with those many!

-Offering them to birds and other wild critters
-making batches of homemade treats
-donate some to a friend or small animal rescue

Good luck using them up

I thought I read birds only eat them if they are rehydrated? Not sure I have the stomach for that. A coworker is getting some baby chicks, maybe he would want a few thousand

I've always just left out live and freeze-dried mealworms in my feeders and the birds adore them I'm sure your coworker would appreciate them as well
