Re: Can I give vegetables for my hamster everyday?
Cod liver oil is much too high in fat soluble vitamins for hamsters, if they need anything extra for condition then flax & evening primrose oil are safe & effective.

It is not regularly - 2-3 times a week when they get older. Of course, it is of the best possible quality - what else?

Cod liver oil is really much better suited to animals like dogs and cats. If you must use it for emergency purposes, this should be done so in small amounts, and ONLY under the direction of a qualified vet. Like cypher mentioned, evening primrose oil and flax seed help maintain coat health. If your hamster's fur is dry and patchy, giving a few drops of olive oil a couple times a week can stimulate coat regeneration. After it's begun growing back, you can switch them off of that, and onto EPO+flax

Re: Can I give vegetables for my hamster everyday?
2-3 times a week is a lot of cod liver oil Karth. Ironically the better the quality the worse it probably is as it will have the higher amounts of those fat soluble vitamins they can easily have too much of & being fat soluble the body cannot easily get rid of the excess.
When they get older if they have a problem with hair loss or dry skin then about 1/2 a drop of EPO daily (for dwarfs) is ample, if they don't really have a problem but maybe a little loss of condition then a drop a week plus a few extra flax seeds is ample.
Apologies reedtwick, we seem to have hijacked your thread a bit here!

Re: Can I give vegetables for my hamster everyday?
I will feed my hamsters greens every day, but not fruits (or vegetables that are botanically a fruit). Any green food that is a leaf, stem, flower, or bud is given to them in large enough quantities for them to eat as much as they want every day - I only limit it to reduce waste. When they are given root vegetables or fruits (which are usually other colors besides green), they are given a small amount every few days.
I believe hamsters who are raised on a limited pellet diet (like a pet store hamster raised on lab blocks at a pet mill) are going to have more problems digesting fresh foods. It's definitely a good idea to start slow and think small when introducing fresh foods to pet store hamsters. Otherwise I think it's fairly difficult to give your hamster too much fresh produce.
