Thoughts on…
I have been feeding Snow Ball a mix of Higgins sunburst with mazuri blocks (as I did some research and a lot of people feed that mix) but I found out today that the store I always go to no longer carries the mazuri block, it's also the only pet store for miles. Now here's my thinking can I mix Martin little friends hamster and gerbil food with the sunburst? (I've attached picture of the little friends bag for reference) I'm really bad a diets and would really appreciate someone's input!

Re: Thoughts on…
I would actually just switch to a Higgins Sunburst and Carefresh hamster and gerbil food mix, with added freeze dried chicken and flax seed per feeding. This is what I personally feed and it works out perfectly, but without the boosted protein it would just barely be under the protein minimum however with the boosted protein it's fine.
You just use 1 tablespoon Carefresh and 1/2 tablespoon Higgins, plus a pinch of flax seed and some pieces of freeze dried chicken(not cooked as this significantly lowers the nutritional value, plus freeze dried is far more of a natural form than cooked meat).

Re: Thoughts on…
Meh, I'm not a fan of the little friends food. For a protein supplementer, you'll want to aim for 19% or higher, otherwise you'll end up with a mix that's a majority protein supplement block which just isn't ideal. Is there any way you can order mazuri blocks online? How about Harlan teklad? I prefer HT to mazuri because it doesn't have molasses and has lower protein (as hamsters really don't need super high protein if over 6 months or so). If you can get hold of it online, that would be ideal. When mixing foods, it absolutely must be done by weight to ensure the GA is correct

Re: Thoughts on…
I'd say mixing by weight is only necessary in certain cases, for example with lab blocks as these would be far too difficult to accurately measure otherwise. With Carefresh however,it can be accurately measured with tablespoons as can Higgins so that isn't an issue with this combination.
I had to figure out the exact ratio for this combination myself, although I will say I ended up with the combination under certain emergency circumstances where improvisation was crucial.Combining foods is definitely not an easy thing to do though, and requires very careful calculations to balance things out.In this case it requires additional protein, but you'd want to add that regardless to allow for the most species appropriate omnivorous diet(animal protein wouldn't be found in any US food anyways, however animal protein from an appropriate high quality source is crucial). The flax seed is something any hamster can benefit from as many forum members already know

Re: Thoughts on…
I haven't checked out the individual mixes but agree with Drago that it is essential to combine mixes by weight not volume if you're aiming for the right GA, doing it by volume (spoonfuls) is nowhere near accurate.
