Hi are Supreme Science Selective hamster pelets good for dwarf hamsters?

They would be okay as a treat but I don't think they're suitable as the sole diet.There wouldn't be enough nutritional variety to make it a balanced and appropriate diet,nor would any pellet be suitable.In my opinion mixing pellets and mixed foods wouldn't be a good idea either in many cases as it is often unnecessary or if done improperly can cause a serious deficiency.I think that Burgess dwarf food on its own is perfectly suitable and does not need the addition of any other food to make it suitable,so adding the Science Selective pellets to Burgess other than giving one or two weekly as a treat would be pointless and as mentioned could lead to a nutritional imbalance.

I have used Science Selective as the primary source of nutrition in the case of an extremely fussy hamster. She was happy with the Science Selective and she was actually in very good condition however a lot of people have found that their hamsters haven't been that keen to eat it and it's usually considered to be a better option to stick to a good quality mix instead.

I'll occasionally add some to my hamsters usual food but this is not essential if your hamster is eating the majority of their mix.

As Amity said the problem with science selective is that your ham could get bored as it doesn't provide variety. However, as Fluffagrams added, if you have a fuzzy eater it could be the only way to assure that he eats what he needs, because their nutritional values are good. I would use it If I couldn't find another mix with good nutritional values or if I had a very picky hamster. I have it and I use it as a treat, because my hamster loves it (he's a syrian) but I prefer to feed him HH as it has seeds and another things that add variety. As Amity suggested, burgess dwarf probably would be best for a dward

I've tried them now & then as an addition to my usual mix but none of my dwarf hams really like them, Tinwë (Russian) did have a go but it took him a week to nibble his way through one piece! I thought Zeki (Chinese) had eaten some but he's just hidden them then ignored them!
If you're really stuck for a good mix then they might be ok but they are very boring so best to get a more natural mix so your ham can forage & not get bored.

All four of my hamsters before three passed to the rainbow bridge loved these biscuits, our last remaining one still eats them like crazy. They were all in good condition it was good food, but did have to switch our albino hybrid to a mix to try and give him more fibre. He always had soft poo no hard poo at all, no one could figure out why and nothing seemed to solve it.

My hams both really like these. They probably make up the bulk of my Robo's diet as he's quite picky with regular mixes and leaves virtually all of it - but I break the SS pellets up and add some tiny additions like canary seed, millet, oats, flax seed, some of the smaller pieces from Harry Hamster and then extras like his usual fruit, veg, protein etc - he eats much better this way and is healthy & lively on it.

My Syrian gets them as a smaller part of his diet but likes them also, they're good for hiding around the cage for him to forage.
