Flax/linseed
I saw somewhere that flax (otherwise known as linseed) is good for a hamster’s fur. How much and how often is it safe to feed?

Re: Flax/linseed
You can give it daily, but keep in mind that extras should not be a large percentage of the diet.I use a pinch usually every day or every other day, depending on when I give my hamster extra food.
Just make sure that it's pure flax, and also make sure that your treats and other extras are also kept at a minimum to avoid dietary imbalance(roughly 10-20 percent of a diet being what is generally agreed on for extras and treats for the majority of animals).

Re: Flax/linseed
Was very much thinking of a tiny amount per day because I know it is very high in energy. They are whole organic flax/linseeds. So, would maybe up to 5 per day be ok? Or less even than that?

Re: Flax/linseed
Whatever amount I use comes to around 1/4 of a 1/4 teaspoon scoop, but I can't be too sure of an exact amount

Re: Flax/linseed
Sorry I am being stupid... So it is 1/4 of 1/4 of a teaspoon, as distinct from 1/4 of a teaspoon?

Got it. 1/4 of 1/4 of a teaspoon... Which I think works out as 1/6th of a teaspoon. Maths is not my strong point
No no you’re not confusing, you are helpfully exact and I like exactness!

Re: Flax/linseed
How much & how often depends entirely on condition, something you learn to judge over time, a young healthy ham with no skin or coat problems eating a good quality mix doesn't actually need any but a pinch once or twice a week as a treat would be fine.
If a ham is in poor condition then you might want to give it daily.

Re: Flax/linseed
Thank you Cypher. I think he is in very good condition, so will probably only try it out as a treat occasionally if he likes it, that is.
