Versele laga hamster complete for dwarfs?
So we finally got ahold of versele laga hamster complete for romeo, it's the best there is in Denmark, seems miles ahead of any other complete food. it has animal protein in the form of chicken and shrimps and it is very well balanced.
it's even small enough that Zelda, our dwarf hybrid can handle it.
what worries me is that it says 4% apple on the label. don't know if that would be safe for her?

Re: Versele laga hamster complete for dwarfs?
Versele-Laga ingredients tend to be very vague I'd feel very uncomfortable with them.Burgess would be much better as long as you can find it and also has animal protein, but unlike the Versele-Laga it does not have any fruit or added sugar which is ideal for hybrids(daily added sugar in the diet isn't healthy). For example,Versele-Laga include unspecified preservatives(at least on their website)which should never be considered safe as this could be anything safe or unsafe.
You can always add animal protein such as dried freshwater shrimp, plain chicken(ideally freeze dried as that is the most natural form other than raw,and it would have the best nutrition),plain turkey(again freeze dried would be best other than raw),egg(as minimally processed as you can would be ideal, but as a fun fact egg has the highest bioavailability of any animal product!),etc.

Re: Versele laga hamster complete for dwarfs?
I agree with amity that versele laga wouldn't be the best choice for a dwarf due to the amount of dried fruits and other sugary items. Plus the pieces are a bit large for the smaller species! Versele laga is overall a fairly good quality brand with excellent variety and a fairly good GA (though it is a bit high on the fat) which would make it a pretty good choice for Syrians, but Burgess is the superior mix for dwarf hamsters

Re: Versele laga hamster complete for dwarfs?
I think 4% apple with the 15% peas would make it much too high in sugars for a hybrid.

Re: Versele laga hamster complete for dwarfs?
Okay. Thank you for your responses
Zelda will stat on her burgess and Romeo will continue with versele laga then.
Was just hoping there was a chance that they could both be on the same food
