Re: Sprouts three ways!
Look forward to hearing what those boys think of them
If it's warm sometimes the tips will go a bit brown, if they do I bin them otherwise they should be good for a day or two more even if they get a bit long.

Re: Sprouts three ways!
So I bought one of those Nibble Grass trays from Zooplus for the guineas and Jasper. I figured I'd start small with something easy. Anyway, it's started sprouting after a couple days and I'm so proud lol . This tray is for the piggies as a 'test' (also because my mum decided to put weed killer down in the garden so no run time and grass for the boys). Hopefully, I can post a photo tomorrow, of most of it sprouting. I'm hoping for some nice green grass.
Just wondering, would it be possible to sprout sunflower seeds, and if so how (container type etc)? I think Larry-Jasper would enjoy that. Maybe a birthday present for him?
I ended up caving in and just buying some plastic pots to use supervised with Jasper for growing, as I can't find anywhere local to buy the ceramic ones. Maybe one day, I'll find them .

Re: Sprouts three ways!
This is one of my favourite threads here. Thanks, everyone, for sharing your sprout pictures, comments, experiences, etc. Growing sprouts for myself has always been fun and it's even more fun to be doing it for a pet. Zoey likes the oat hay.

Re: Sprouts three ways!
Well done chesca, I'm sure they'll love the nibble grass, look forward to seeing a photo!
Sunflower seeds can be sprouted with the jar method so you just have a tiny sprout, mine go mad for those or you can grow it in a pot or sand so you get more growth but mine don't seem so keen on them that way, when I included sunflower seeds in a mixed pot or saucer I expected them to go first but they didn't take much notice!

Re: Sprouts three ways!
Sounds good Chesca. I was the same the first time my sprouts grew, felt really proud of myself lol. I'm sure Pemba and Oreo will love it I haven't tried the nibble grass before, might need to get some the next time I need to do an order
My boys loved the sprouted sunflower seeds and I'm sure Larry-Jasper will too

Re: Sprouts three ways!
Chesca I would like to see your grass! I was thinking about buying the grass too but in the end I did not because I didn't know If the soil was separated or the seeds and the soil were already mixed.
I also have to upload some photos...
I've already sprouted two more batches of lentils and spelt. However I keep failing with the millet. I really believe that is something wrong with those seeds because it's not normal. last time I planted them with the spelt and I had to dust everything because the spelt was growing but the millet wasn't and it started to smell awful again.

Re: Sprouts three ways!
Ok I feel like this is probably a really stupid question but once I start to wonder, that's it and I have to check. I managed to get shelled warrior seeds all over the plate the pots are sitting in! The seeds that have been sitting in the plate look quite nice and I was going to give them to the hams but then I wondered if that was safe to do so? They seem to have longish roots so it made me doubt myself (they probably do in the pots too I imagine, it's just that I never see them lol).
Here's what they look like

Re: Sprouts three ways!
Those will be fine, I do the same, make a right mess & find little seeds sprouting in odd places

Re: Sprouts three ways!
Excellent, thank you Cypher Will hopefully keep them going until the pots are actually ready. Think I stuffed them too full of fitch this time as they seem to be growing slowly.

Re: Sprouts three ways!
They may start to go a bit brown if you try keeping them so it might be better to just give them those few soon rather than wait.
