Thank you Cypher. I've got some black quinoa ordered and looking forward to trying it out

What an impressive thread Cypher, I can't help but think if I tried it it would be a disaster lol! But, I do love reading about it, you make it look so easy.

I tried millet 4 times and I'm having a hard time making it grow, it didn't germinated and it always end up rotting (smelled terrible). I don't know what I was doing wrong, because I did the same as I did with the lentils. Now I'm trying sprouting spelt (I ended fed up with the millet) and so far so good, I started yesterday and I already can see some... roots? tails? whatever.

I was thinking that maybe the millet wasn't fresh or it was processed, roasted or something. How could I know that?

Sorry you haven't had any luck with your millet Hamsterita, you can never know for sure if it's fresh except by germinating it so if it doesn't germinate then it could be that it's not fresh, it should say if it's been roasted or anything on the pack & if you get millet sold for birds it won't have been.
You can try a germination test by just putting some on a piece of kitchen paper on a small plate or something & keeping it just damp, they should begin to germinate like that although they won't grow much so it's really just to test rather than for feeding.
What are you growing them in? If they go mouldy it usually means that they're too wet, especially if it's warm, damp sand does seem to be the best way to avoid mould.

I didn't bought them, my mom did, and they were in bulk, so I don't know if the store had more information about them, but the only thing that the label says is that it is eco millet.

I tried growing them with sand. They didn't go mouldy, they just didn't grew, and after 4 to 5 days they started to smell terrible. I'll try with kitchen paper next time. That's what I'm doing with the spelt, I put it over damped kitchen paper and it's growing, I thought that I could leave it there, so would you recommend me to trasplant it on sand?

You could just leave it on the paper & see how it goes, if you put it into sand now you might just damage the roots so it won't grow, if you can just pick it off without damaging it & lay it on some sand, just damp not too wet & sprinkle a little more sand on top it might go ok.

The millet in the sand could have been covered with too much sand, too wet or just not still viable & able to grow, it's a shame though but don't give up! Maybe try to get a small bag of millet for birds?

The first two times I didn't cover them with sand at all, and the third and forth time I did. I don't think I covered them much, I still could see some seeds, but it was an evenly layer of sand,do you think it was too much? I'll keep trying It looked so easy with the lentils!!

Then, I'm going to leave the spelt be and see how it goes, I don't want to ruin what I already have. Anyway at this point, what's another failure? I think that I could move them without problems, If they don't grow this time, I'll try moving them next time.

I thought about the millet for birds, but when I went to buy it, I only could find what here is called "alpiste" (google translate says that you call them alpist or birdseed) and it didn't specify with kind of seeds it had, so I was unsure of his safety.

I'm not going to make a living as a gardener, that's for sure

Miracles can happen! Don't give up yet
I do wonder about the quality of millet as I haven't found it the easiest sprout to do but if I sprout my hamster mix it all seems to germinate including the millet so maybe there's lots of millet out there that isn't so fresh?

Just to add I'm doing some red quinoa today to see how well it sprouts & it's just as fast as the black, you can almost stand & watch it grow

I'm never going to be a gardener either Hamsterita, but we're learning so as Cypher says don't give up

I'm growing some black quinoa today, even though you said it grows fast Cypher I was still surprised to see little shoots coming from some of the seeds. I didn't notice any tanin coming from the quinoa when I was rinsing it so I'm hoping I rinsed it well enough and I'm not leaving them in too much water!

Tannins was a typo sorry! I should have said saponins!
Either way you won't see anything & just a few rinses will do so no need to worry.
They are amazing little grains, I'm still surprised with every batch lol!
