Default Hay for hamsters?

So i got some hay off a friend who used to have guinea pigs but got rid of them, I was wondering if the hamsters could have it? Is there a certain way I should give it to them or anything I should do before I feed them it?
Also, I heard they could have Weetabix? Thank you!

I'm not an expert, but as far as i know, they usually use hay as nest material, but they don't eat it as a regular basis.

It's good too to help them trim his teeth.

The problem is that some hay is too rough and that can cause impacted cheeks if they try to pouch it, so some people prefer to avoid it.

I don't know about weetabix.

Hay is ok for them provided you check it very carefully for any sharp bits that might hurt their pouches & you need to freeze it for at least 48hrs to avoid any possible problems with mites.
I have given it to mine occasionally but they aren't that bothered & it's too much hassle tbh!

Weetabix is ok as an occasional treat.

I would avoid hay completely. It has no real benefits for hamsters in terms of being a food item, and as a nesting material it isn't any better or safer than something like cheap toilet paper. The risks involved with using it have already been mentioned, but do keep in mind that toilet paper essentially has none of those risks and takes up a lot less space to store.
