But..the shipping cost more than the food, Shipping was $37.50 for 5 bags.
Even if you want one bag, the shipping will still be more expensive than the food.

This is why I was hoping to find something in the US. That is alot to pay just for shipping.

How often would you have to buy the food that way though?A bag of food generally lasts at least a month if not two,so keep in mind it isn't something you're paying that often. The quality is definitely worth it at the very least,as it is far superior to just about any food in the US as everything has some form of sugar even if it is merely a tiny amount.
Furthermore, the cost is going to be about the same as buying Higgins and Mazuri anyways but there is no serious calculation involved in making sure the GA is appropriate.

That makes sense. It is really sad that the US doesn't actually have a good food around here.

We have good food for Syrians if you can find it,but not much luck with diabetic prone species food unfortunately It is a pain to deal with no matter what species of hamster you have, and I know that from personal experience.

True Amity, 5 bags total is $65. That would last a long time, especially if your only feeding one hamster.
You can freeze food that you aren't using. Probably order 1 or 2 bags to make sure your hammy likes it?
I also had Chloe on Kaytee Forti diet blocks (only) & she's about 2 yr & 4-5 mo old right now
I'd try to buy hammy food in the stores, if possible

I think that some hams might find it boring but that seems to be down to individual tastes and could happen with any food. I had my first Chinese eating it for about two and a half years before they decided one day that they didn't want to eat it any more so I had to switch them over to something else.
Victoria and the pups are eating it quite happily although are a little reluctant to eat the grass pellets.

Re: Best food for dwarf winter white or hybrid hamsters in the US
Oxbow is rather nutritionally inadequate for hamsters. The CHA used it and many hamsters lost condition badly.
For a diabetic dwarf, I would probably go with something more like Sunseed Critter Cubes and perhaps Vitakraft.
Otherwise, any species of hamster will likely do well on Higgins Sunburst and Mazuri Rat and mouse. Diabetes is much more related to genetics in the USA, than obesity - and provided you're feeding a high quality diet, and provide exercise, there shouldn't be the opportunity to get obese.

Re: Best food for dwarf winter white or hybrid hamsters in the US
I have Sylvester on Oxbow & Vitakraft vita nature but nobody is selling vita nature anymore.
It's all vita smart & most hammies I've had don't like the colorful pellets in it.
All Pet Smart stores have their hamsters on Oxbow (or something similar to Oxbow, the stores rings look a little bigger than the brand Oxbow, just an observation).

Re: Best food for dwarf winter white or hybrid hamsters in the US
I feed my two (hybrids) a mix of JR Farm Feast (from Zooplus) and Burgess Dwarf Hamster Harvest, I get it from P@H here in England!
They've got no complaints other then the dark strand thing, but from what I've seen no hamster "likes" that bit!
