Chamomile tea for roborovskis?
So this is a pretty random one, but someone told me that hams love chamomile tea, and that I could make it, cool it, and add it to their water bottles?
Firstly, is this true? And has anyone tried it?
Sounds slightly mad to me, but you never know haha

Re: Chamomile tea for roborovskis?
I wouldn't give chamomile tea as it is a medicinal thing and it would be difficult to know what strength (could be too toxic possibly). However, 2 or 3 dried chamomile flowers scattered in the cage should be ok. They only eat what they need and the scent is calming too. And just two or three shouldn't be too strong. There are other edible flowers as well - English marigold petals (Calendula) and Cornflowers are two I've used, but again just a tiny amount scattered.

I agree, water bottles are for water & nothing else!
I use chamomile & other flowers as a form of enrichment in the cage but just scatter a few around every few weeks or so.

Thanks both, I thought it was an odd thing to be told to give them! Gordy and Derrick will be sticking to good old water then!
At the minute the boys get one or two sunflower seeds as treats every few days to help with taming, but I might get them some flowers like you've suggested for Christmas (and give them sparingly!).

Re: Chamomile tea for roborovskis?
I'm not sure Robos and calming go together lol! Pumpkin seeds are also popular treats for taming. They are notoriously very fast active little things - and may never be fully hand tame - some people manage it, others don't, and some depends on the hamster as well. But they are well known for their antics and entertainment value, so having an interesting cage set up for them could be enjoyable for them and you to watch
