Exclamation Color in Chinese's Food? Good or Bad?

Is it better to have more Alfalfa pellets in a Chinese hamster's diet than colorful stuff like corn and seeds. My food I have for them still has a little bit of color but not as much as other foods. Also, any advice would be helpful because I just got 2 Chinese hamsters a couple weeks ago. I'm also new to this forum! Thanks!

Hi & welcome to the forum

Congrats on your new Chineseys!
They should be having a good quality dwarf hamster mix ideally, that may contain a few alfalfa pellets but not many, they can be prone to diabetes so shouldn't have sugars (including fruit) in their diet but don't take anything like corn or peas out of the mix though as you won't know what they're having then.
Which mix are you feeding them now?
If you're in the UK then Burgess dwarf hamster harvest is a good mix, there are also a couple of others available from Zooplus which are quite good, Bunny Dwarf HamsterDream & JR Farm Feast for Dwarf Hamsters
.

Mine have not been keen on the alfalfa pellets to the point where some of them have refused to eat them so in my experience either adding alfalfa to a mix or buying one with a large percentage of it is likely to result in a fair bit of wastage.

My Chineseys enjoy seeds and these are usually the first things they'll pick out. Unfortunately they can be fattening if fed in excess but the amount in most commercial mixes is unlikely to cause a problem.

Chinese hamsters are one of the species prone to diabetes but unless you have a diabetic hamster, removing any part of the mix is not recommended.

Where in the world are you located? In the UK, Burgess Dwarf tends to be a recommended option but I'm not sure on brands outside of the UK.

Welcome to Hamster Central by the way!
