Default Refilling the bowl

Still doing research before Kalsoy arrives, but I've been wondering how often I should refill the food bowl? I can see that some people do it every day, while others do it every two to three days What would you guys recommend?

I would recommend every couple of days to help discourage selective feeding and encourage them to eat everything in their mix rather than just picking out their favourite pieces.

Great, that was also what I wanted to do, but I wasn't quite sure So I should just fill it up when it's completely empty?

Well you don't want it to get fat... I fill mine up once a day with like 3/4 of a plastic spoon full. By the end of the day everything is eaten except for the shells and chaff. Just my opinion

Actually, hamsters are relatively self regulating for the most part.As long as you're feeding a good diet, chances are they will not get "fat".Do keep in mind that hamsters will hoard food,so just because a bowl is empty doesn't mean that they have nothing to eat!

I refill bowls every three days or so, by then they're almost empty (but I know they still have some in their nests) - if I do it anymore frequently, they just eat their favourite bits

It also depends on the hamster. My Syrian gets a scoop (About a tablespoon a day) in his bowl. Plus he gets 3 or 4 Harlan pieces of Teklad 2018 block food every other day.

My dwarf hamsters get scattered food (about a teaspoon). It keeps them busy and active foraging for food. They also get 2 small pieces of the Teklad blocks every other day.

Okay, thank you so much everyone I'll give it a go with every two days or so, and see how it goes
