Just a thought have you triedbher with Farleys Rusks? They shoukd be good to help build her up can be mixed with a little warm water or milk so its like baby food or given in snall pieces to knaw and eat that way.

Don't feel bad about the incident with the meds, it is easy for something like that to happen but it doesn't seem to have been a problem for her, probably more stressful for you really.

Haha story of my life stressing over nothing, I remember when I first got Pikachu I was on this forum every day having a panic about something or other haha!

Actually no I haven't tried rusks, she probably would really like them as she loves the Heinz Apple Biscuits and anything with that texture!

I also love eating rusks too, so good excuse to buy them. Thank You for the suggestion!

I'm very pleased that the more natural foods seem to be going down a treat though. The mealworms are a hit and she loved the Walnut yesterday!

Pleased to see that when she is eating her teeth are still nice and yellow and a good size, I heard her gnawing a chew last night so that's another good sign!

Hello Lady Pikachu. See if you can pick up some live waxworms. They can't hurt her at all and they have lots of calories. Just give her one a day and see how she does.

You are doing a fantastic job with her. Between you and your mother, Pikachu is one lucky little hammie. Fingers crossed for you both.

I am doing a P@H order soon for my little furry family, just checked and they sell them online and you can get them delivered so I will give those a go for sure!

I would be very interested to see how she reacts as she has never encountered a live insect before, then again I'm pretty certain she once killed and ate a fly that flew in to her cage.. :')

If trying Rusks, the low sugar/sugar free may be better for the hamster.

The Rusks are great especially the low sugar ones. I used them on Archie when he wasn't well.

I am heartbroken, absolutely devastated.

Woke up this morning and got Pikachu out for her medicine and eye bath routine, she was a bit more sleepy than usual.

When I was finished she did her usual walk about then just layed down.. I picked her up and she fell asleep in my hands. She has never done that, and her eyes looked faded.

I put her back in her cage to see if she would walk back to her bed, she went to her toilet and was half in half out. I could see she wouldn't make it in without some help, and I knew something was wrong. I went to go pick her up and she jumped in the toilet.

I took the toilet out as I was very worried. She was breathing in slow heavy bursts. I opened the toilet lid and she was just face first in the sand, and it was stuck to her nose.

I pulled her out and wiped the sand away from her nose and mouth with a cotton bud thinking it would help, but no improvement.

I picked her up and held her in my hands and she just layed on her side, she started breathing heavier but with a few seconds between each breath.

She passed away in my hands.

It was so sudden, I am so upset and confused. I did everything I could and it wasn't enough.

I feel like in the end I did everything wrong.. She went with sand all over her face and I feel terrible.

All I can find comfort in, is that she waited for me before going to the rainbow bridge. She felt safe enough in my hands to go and I did everything I could.

And she had another week of hee life with all the treats she could dream of, and no pain as she was on painkillers.

I was a good nurse, but i wish i was a miracle worker.

I am so very sorry to hear your sad news, you really did do everything you could for her, it's only natural to think that you could have done more but you gave her every chance & helped her in every possible way, you were there for her as she passed away & I'm sure she took comfort in that.
It's never easy & sadly we can't work miracles although we always wish we could, she had a wonderful happy life with you, try to take comfort in that.

So very sorry at this news. I have been reading this thread since you came back and was hoping your special little lady would pull through. You did everything possible to care for her, there is no question of that. Please don't worry about the sand, you gently helped clean her and she slipped away knowing that you loved her. There are many memories and photos to make you smile when you are ready.
