Doesn't like millet and can't get into monkey nuts...... what else can I try

Hello everyone.

Swift (Roborovski hamster) is now about 12 weeks old.
It was suggested I try her on millet and monkey nuts for treats, she doesn't seem interested in the millet. As for the monkey nuts, she loves the nut but can't get into them herself so I have to break them.
I don't have meat in the house so can't give her bits of meat.
Any suggestions for other treats I could try?

If you just break the end of the shell with the monkey nuts she should be able to work her way in, don't expect it to go in a hurry chewing the shell is good for teeth & a whole monkey nut can last mine a couple of weeks!
If you ever order from Zooplus it might be worth getting some of these chicken treats, they're really handy as a treat & low fat protein boost, each one is quite tiny but I still manage to break it into three pieces.

Can't remember what else I might have suggested before so the usual lol! flax, hemp, pumpkin or sunflower seeds (in the shell) in moderation, mealworms if she likes those, you could just take bits out of her food mix & offer those by hand, small pieces of veg too if she isn't already having them make great healthy treats.

thank you cypher. I'll try just breaking the end off, hopefully that'll help her enough.
Sunflower seeds are in her food, so I will look out for the other things you have listed, sorry if you've already mentioned all this, I have a bad memory! lol

I've ordered a dry vegetable mix which has something in there for protein as well, can't remember what though.

Pumpkin seeds, a tiny bit of cheese, antos chews, a quarter of a walnut, half a brazil nut, half a cashew nut (plain not salted or roasted). Rosewoods chew sticks are good too - the mini rodent and dandelion ones. (Not all at once lol).

I do give mine various nuts but tend to give just crumb size pieces!

You could try other small seeds meant for pet birds. There are a few different kinds of millet, so maybe your hamster just didn't like the one you tried.

Some hamsters won't eat a new food right away. But may eat it a few it has been offered a few times.

Joey absolutely loves millet, he would live off it if he could! He can't get into monkey nuts either when they're whole but he can if I crack them slightly. He really likes mealworms, oats and canary seed and I add all these to his food. Rat Rations have a really good selection of little seeds etc that you can buy in small portions.

Some of the treats/food you buy for your dog might be ok for him too, if you're not any to give him any little pieces of meat.

There's quite a lot of herbs & a few other ingredients in that dog food that I wouldn't be 100% sure are safe for a ham so probably better not.

It has digest which is yet another term that companies tend to use instead of saying animal derivatives,animal biproducts,and things like that.It still isn't very good for any animal to be ingesting though
