As Cypher mentioned- never give your hamster live mealworms with the heads still on. They definitely do bite and our one ham got a nasty bite on her lip from one before we knew about this.

It is a bit messy but we keep a small scissors by the mealworm tub and cut their heads off before giving them to our hamsters.

I've yet to see a dwarf hamster who didn't love fresh mealworms!

Thanks for the scissors idea, I'd imagine it would make things even easier for those who don't want to touch the mealworms as much as possible. I also think it could make things easier for those who own multiple hamsters since it would likely make things even faster, especially if they managed to cut the heads off of multiple mealworms at once.

I'll probably even test it out myself once I have pets I can try it with - although one of the two planned pets technically doesn't need the heads removed(they do need live worms or canned, not dried though as there are risks associated with dried worms for the particular species). I'd rather be paranoid and safe though. I don't think my cats would appreciate mealworms beyond one thinking they're a toy or the other thinking they're something new to dissect in the most vicious way possible(the one that dissects is the nicer cat funnily enough), and the dog would just be confused!

Ha yes! It is so difficult to find proper nutrition for hamsters and I usually end up mixing together a variety of foods! This is nice to just buy these two! Thank you!!
