Default Scatter feeding issue

Hello,

I've been trying to introduce scatter feeding to my male Syrian, Ruble, for the past week. He is around 12 weeks old. I've been placing half his food in his bowl and half around the cage.
However, every time I leave food around his cage he seems to pick it back up and put it in his food bowl! I've even seen him do this with some pretty large dog biscuits! It seems like he's trying to tell me he does not appreciate me hiding his food everywhere and making a mess. He's a pretty tidy little guy.
Is it time to give up or do you think it's still worth trying to introduce it?
Any advice is much appreciated x

It could be that your hamster just thinks the food bowl is a nice hoarding place. :P Some hamsters also kick bedding over their food bowl just to hide it from others.

Keep scatter feeding. It's good for them to search for their food. They choose where the hoard will be and it looks like yours has chosen the food bowl.

You're right, he does sometimes cover the food bowl with bedding. I hadn't realised that his food bowl is also a permanent food hoard! He has a mini stash in his house but that's always pretty small. I will keep up with the scatter feeding. Thanks!

I tried scatter feeding with my ham not too long ago and he did the same thing - picking up the things i put out and dropping them straight in his food bowl. Only when he had collected the food would he pouch the stuff from his bowl to take down into the massive hoard he keeps in his nest. He's a very particular little thing
