Default Food questions

Do anybody have experience with Mr. Johnson's hamster and gerbil mix?

It seems to have the right amount of protein, fat and so on, but looks more like a Syrian mix to me than a dwarf mix.
The whole thing about it being a part gerbil mix concerns me too, as I prefer a mix made for one specific animal and not multiple.

If this isn't good either I feel like I'm out of options. Amazon doesn't ship hamster food to Denmark and buying bags on ebay leaves me with multiple bags which all expires far before my hamsters can finish them. I'm underwhelmed by the zooplus mixes which my hamsters don't like and I have lost all trust in vita kraft though they are the only mixes sold in pets stores here.

I mailed a rodent specialist store about the chances of selling burgess supa dwarf hamster as they sold other burgess mixes, but they replied that hamsters should only be fed pellets and that burgess dwarf mix wasn't anything to be proud of and should be avoided.

Though I can't find oxbow or science selective anywhere either. Has anyone heard about the Complete Hamster & gerbil mix? I can get my hands on that one but I haven't ever heard about it and the gerbil part throws me off again.

I feel like getting my hands on a decent mix is far more difficult than it should be

If I'm left with vita kraft, can anyone point me to one of their mixes that is okay and safe?

I'm not overly impressed with Mr. Johnson's tbh & like you I'm always a bit wary when a food is marketed for two or more species with different needs.
I guess a lot depends on your budget but if you don't mind paying a fair bit in postage for good quality food have a look at Mixerama, they have some good premixed dwarf food or if you're a bit mad like me you can make your own

I think you can get Burgess Dwarf Hamster Harvest from VioVet, they ship internationally but expect to wait a bit!

Or, as Cypher said, you could be adventurous and make your own on Mixerama - have Google Translate to hand though!

I completely forgot about viovet! Thanks a lot! You have no clue how stressed I have been this last week only because I couldn't find a reasonable way to get a good mix £18 is a bit much for the shipping though but I really want a good mix for my hams.

The Mixerama's mixes look so nice! Have you tried any of them? Were they a success? You always seem to know all these awesome less known places to get lovely stuff for your hamsters, they must be very pleased!

Also has any of you ordered the small houses from viovet where you get a random of three? Do you think it would be possible to order 3 and get the entire set?

I tried a couple of the mixerama premixes, this one is nice, smell wonderful & the hams seemed to like most of it, also this one but I found it had too many small grass seeds really & I found that with my first attempt at my own mix some of the seeds were smaller than I had thought, they don't seem to want to bother with grass seed generally even though they should lol! & the tiny ones can make scatter feeding a bit difficult as they get lost in the substrate.
I've been working on my own mix for a while now & tried a few variations before I got it right, they seem to love it & thrive on it, I may make a few more changes but this is it for now minus the animal protein, herbs & veg which I add separately.

No idea about random orders on viovet, if I order anything random from anywhere I seldom get that lucky!

If you email viovet before you order, they might be able to send you one of each. It will depend on what they have in stock but they are usually good at helping if they can! I actually emailed once because there was something that came in random colors and didn't particularly want once certain color so I emailed them and they sent me a different color!
