Default Green & Orange Harry Hamster Pellets?

I've noticed that Willow is being a bit picky with her food recently and it leaving out the green and orange pellets from the Harry Hamster. She's eating everything else (rest of the mix as well as add-lns) but tends to leave hem until last. Is there an ingredient that hamsters just don't like (like the black alfalfa pellets) or is it just Willow being fussy?

I found my hams became picky with those green and orange pellets too, when they changed the Harry Hamster recipe sometime last year. Unfortunately they need to eat those bits really, to get the full nutrition of the mix, so if she really is being picky I'd suggest changing food to be honest!

I actually asked the manufacturers what those pieces actually were as I got so fed up with my two Chineseys leaving them and apparently it's wheat. It seemed to be making up a large percentage of the last packet I bought so I stopped buying it after that.

That would explain it it's not that Willow isn't eating it, she just leaving it until last

The alphalfa fillers that they put in the hamsters foods here in US in most all the food, except Oxbow, just are there to take up room to make it look like your getting more for your money. I have never had a hamster eat one of those alphalfa fillers

I'm sure the little wheat biscuits aren't as tasty as the rest of the mix so she's obviously just eating her favourite bits first!

CB I really thought the myth of fillers in ham food had been well & truly debunked by now!

I think the alfalfa pellets are meant to be a high source of (plant) protein, they just never get eaten!

Yes among other things, alfalfa is quite nutritious in many ways in small amounts & I think hams actually quite like it, just not in that pellet form!

None of mine like the orange and green harry hamster pellets. I mix in other foods with it now eg the bunny dream from zooplus and mr johnstons gerbil and hamster mix and some of the naturals foods.

Sherbet eats the orange and green pellets, she actually enjoys them! But she normally only leaves the monkey nuts as she doesn't know how to open them or anything grassy based she will leave.
