Fun human foods to give your hamsters?
What "human" foods do you like to give your hamsters? I never branched out further than broccoli and carrots really. But would really like to try out new things for my hybrids and potentially a syrian on the horizon.

My Syrian loves banana and strawberries! He has also had 2 peas, which he loved! He also enjoys the odd treat of (dry) sugar-free cornflakes He also loves walnuts, and monkey nuts. Bought loads of new stuff for him to try too

Re: Fun human foods to give your hamsters?
For Syrians, fruit is a good option for an occasional treat as long as the type of fruit is safe I'd also recommend finding a safe fruits and vegetables list here,as well as a list of safe seeds and nuts since all of those are very beneficial if fed in moderation such as a healthy treat.Personally I'm a big fan of feeding any animal that can digest animal protein chicken breast, but turkey is also a good option and you can create a fresh vegetables and animal protein salad for your ham or some variation of a hamster safe recipe. There are tons of recipes out there on the internet but try to keep it simple and as healthy as possible

Animal protein in my house might be a bit hard to come by as I myself don't eat meat. :P Though if my housemate has any I might try and beg some off her for the hams. I would be worried if I bought some that it would go off.

I've heard you can get freeze dried chicken in the UK but it has to be just chicken,no added ingredients at all.If not mealworms are good too and freeze dried are fine It is harder though to find certain things when you're not exactly eating them yourself, but hopefully you'll figure out some way to work in animal protein.

I used to give mealworms to my robo though my syrians didn't like them for some reason haha. I'll keep an eye out. My animals are the only times I would ever buy any animal products. I wouldn't buy them for humans. :P

Same here. I also have a massive phobia of mealworms, otherwise I'd give these. But you can get some chicken falvor cat biscuits, or even dog biscuits and they should be ok. Just no onion, garlic. I think the Applaws, Burns and a few others are meant to be quite food quality. The Applaws is all natural ingrediants and just looks like chicken instead of cat food! Only thing is it comes in pouches or tins that are fine for cats but too big for hamsters! Might keep in the firdge for a day though. Otherwise I will be giving the rest of the ones I got for Sweep to the cat

Baby food is also a really good option as long as it contains no unsafe ingredients In fact,if you have Gerber products in the UK(not sure as I am not from the UK)Gerber Graduates Puffs are very popular among hamster owners and they're human edible as well so if you get tempted to try one or a few they're perfectly safe
