Cat treats ...
I bought Sweep some of the Thrive chiken flavored cat treats from our local supermarket to try. He didn't like it, but I don't blame him as they smell disgusting! So am giving a couple to the cat each day, which has made me his new best friend! Are there any others people use? Was thinking of the Whiskars Temptations (the chicken ones). Would only give him like one at any time, but not sure if he can have those?
Getting dog buscuits is hard as they come in such big packs and if he didn't like them I'd be stuck with a massive box of dog treats! I know some people use cat biscuits either as a treat or mixed into the mix. Our cat has (I think!) the GoCat ones in chicken flavor as he's not allowed fish flavor food anymore. However, Sweep is still a baby really and the cat biscuits are for adult cats which is why I haven't given him any yet. I could possily get Sweep a small pack of kitten biscuits if they would be better - and also could I put them into his mix for some protein, or just as a treat? I have a phobia about mealworms otherwise I'd give him those! We don't eat a lot of chicken in our house, and don't really have eggs either so am struggling to think of other protein foods for him!

Re: Cat treats ...
That's odd, my thrive chicken doesn't really smell of anything at all to me although the hams love it so it must smell of something to them!
A lot of cat treats really aren't suitable, a tiny bit of good quality kibble is ok as an occasional treat but if you want chicken I've found this the best, only good ingredients & a real hit with the hams!

From what I remember the Whiskas ones(if that's what you're referring to)are pretty low quality For protein, broccoli is good as is tofu and different nuts and things.I'd say go for chicken cat treats or dog treats, but make sure they are crunchy and definitely no fish and they cannot have any unsafe ingredients such as pork products etc.Just put the ingredients up and we can help if you're not sure Not sure what they have in the UK or it would be easier for me to recommend an exact brand but the UK sites don't always list the best ingredient list so it wouldn't help much either.

Re: Cat treats ...
Thanks. Only reason I'm thinking chicken is because if Sweep doesn't like them then I can give them to the cat Cypher, the thrive ones I had smelled horrid! Definitely didn't smell of chicken though! Though the smell (and taste!) seems to appeal to the cat, so maybe it's just me LOL. I do have quite a sensitive sense of smell though! I can usually smell what the neighbors are cooking for dinner

Re: Cat treats ...
Well when you think of the things cats will eat........!
They really shouldn't smell bad though, I have a very sensitive sense of smell too so I'd be a bit concerned about those tbh.

Re: Cat treats ...
I've just been doing a bit of Googling - my second favorite hobby! It seems the Applaws dry food is high on the list of everyone's favorites in terms of quality, and I know they only use natural ingredients. So was thinking of trying a chicken of that. If Sweep likes it, could I add it to his mix?
With the Thrive ones, I think I'll throw them! They are in date, and were only opened yesterday but if they're not meant to smell then I won't give them to the cat! Don't want him getting poorly again!!

Re: Cat treats ...
I bought some of the Thrive Chicken recently for my hammy. As I don't have him yet and was looking after a friend's hybrid, I gave him some and he absolutely loved it. Even the dog wanted some. Where did you get your Thrive chicken? It does smell a bit weird but not very strong.
You could try wet cat or dog food for extra protein, although make sure all the ingredients are safe. The Applaws ones have very few ingredients. Here's a link to a chicken and beef one: Applaws Chicken with Beef in Jelly Cat Pouch 70g | Pets At Home

Re: Cat treats ...
Whiskers chicken meat strip cat treats could be worth trying. If Sweep isn't keen I'm sure your cat will enjoy them.
They have a lot of little ridges on them, so you can break them smaller rather than giving a whole one. Pets at home have loose dog biscuits you can buy like a pick and mix.

Got it in Sainsbury's! Have tried the wet Applaws with a previous hammy who enjoyed it, so might try it. Jst thinking though that hammies don't eat a lot of it, and the cat isn't allowed wet food at the moment either (he's not my cat so I can't just give it to him). Might wait for a bit anyway as I already have another few large orders for Sweep coming ...!

Thanks. Not heard of these before. Will take a look! The nearest P@H is like an hour on a bus, but I don't actually know how to get there! Still, not doing anything tomorrow so might go on adventure and take a look
