Default Re: How to help a hamster lose weight

Everyone is suggesting balls and playpens but are you able to free range? It beats both options above but if not I would get a ball and make a playpen. I got my ball for euro 6 brand new in a local pet shop so they are not the 25 dollars said above. But if she doesn't go in willingly don't force her! What size cage do you have? If your cage is too small that could be a problem. My Syrian loves treat toys. Get a cardboard tube and cute some slits and fold over with treats inside. Even some veggies etc. You could hang veggies and dandelions to provide a healthy treat and exercise. Good luck xx

I think it depends on the size of the ball. They are definitely way too expensive for the rat sized balls which are considered okay for Syrians, but even then the slits are dangerous in any ball because of possible safety concerns.Free range is definitely preferred above all though, and is probably the most cost effective option since it is free and all you need to do is just hamster proof a certain area of your home!
