Default Hazel hamster

If I feed our new 6 month old male Syrian Hazel Hamster which is 16 percent protein, do I have to supplement any protein or is that enough?

Am I right in thinking that Hazel Hamster is the American version of Harry hamster? Because if it is, then I think it should be fine, as the is the one most people here use ... Though of course, your hamster will love you for extra treats!

Actually the American version has a different formula now.For American hamster owners, the best available seed mix would be Higgins Hamster and Gerbil.Forgot the exact line it is but not the garden one! However, most American seed mixes do need supplementation in lab block form such as Harlan Teklad lab blocks or Mazuri Rat and Mouse lab blocks.

The American hamster food situation is extremely confusing even if you are in America! It's definitely not the best situation either, considering our treats and even main diets are more often than not a reflection of the American unhealthy food stereotype. We do have a few very good brands though, but nothing like the availability of natural products in the UK.Mostly the good things we find for our hamsters end up being for other pets or for humans.

The protein is a bit low for a young ham but you can just give a small piece of plain cooked chicken a couple of times a week & if your ham likes them a few mealworms can also help to increase protein intake, if you give treats like seeds or nuts he will get some additional protein from those too but it is good to give them some animal protein, not a lot though.
