Default Monkey nuts

My new ham dex is about 8/9 weeks old. Is it okay to give him monkey nuts in the shell?

There was some shelled monkey nuts in James' Harry Hamster mix so I gave one to him one day and the silly boy ignored it until I'd cracked the shell a little bit and helped him get started with getting the contents out.

Maybe monkey nuts are a bit easier for Syrians.

I generally break a tiny bit of the shell too, always worth trying if they don't seem interested at first!

Favourites with all three of mine. My (fully grown) Syrian gets one uncracked as she's big enough to do it herself. My robo and my baby Chinese get one that I crack a hole in so they can get their teeth into it.

Charlie cracks them himself! In no time lol. He has now designated a special pot for leaving the used shells in, which is very thoughtful of him.

lol! very helpful Charlie
Zephyr's monkey nuts always used to totally disappear until she'd finished with them then she's bring the shell out & leave it on top of the substrate "Clean up the trash mum!"

My Syrians used the shell as additional nesting material. My dwarf left the empty shells in his food bowl along with the green pellets as he wouldn't eat them.
