Re: Has anyone ever made their own hamster food?
Hey there! This is a great thread! Such great information!
I recently started researching on how to make your own dwarf hamster mix, which turns out to be quite a task considering that they're unfortunately very likely to develop Diabetes and are not supposed to have certain foods. It's great that so many of you are up to the challenge!
But I'm still a beginner in all things hamster and I have to admit that I felt a bit overwhelmed by all the different ingredients! In search of a good base mix I stumbled across this awesome all natural seed and protein mix by JR Farm that I think should be suitable for all hamsters: JR Farm Small Rodent Special I imagine that with some herbs and blossoms this could make a great daily diet for a dwarf hamster! (Of course fresh veggies and the occasional sunflower or pumpkin seed treat are an important part of this diet! ) Unfortunately I couldn't find it on zooplus but it should be available in other pet stores!

Re: Has anyone ever made their own hamster food?
I've seen that JR mix before when browsing German pages, some of the JR products just don't seem to be available here in the UK or maybe anywhere outside Germany which is a shame, it does look good but there's no information about levels of protein, fat or fibre which is important to know if you want to use something as a main feed.
It is a bit overwhelming when you first start thinking about making your own mix but it's well worth doing all the research & very rewarding if you do have a go once you feel ready

That's an excellent find! I haven't seen that one before. I only really look on Zooplus though - I wonder if you can get it in the Uk. I tried putting it in the Amazon search box and couldn't find it, but I did find this! Sounds similar

And they do this as well - doesn't look very appetising but could be a supplement for a sick hammy maybe

Re: Has anyone ever made their own hamster food?
I've searched before Serendipity & you can't get it in the UK.
That first mix has some similar seeds in but also a lot of herbs too, it doesn't look too different to some of the mixes on the Mixerama site but like theirs has no GA or proportions of ingredients, the second one is I think meant more as a soft food for sick animals although I'm not totally sure, the ingredients don't really look suitable as a main feed for a ham, even a sick one I wouldn't have thought.

Yes they sound like supplementary things really.

Re: Has anyone ever made their own hamster food?
I'm not sure about all the ingredients, don't know if hams can have walnut leaves for example & a few other things I'd have to check as I can't remember off hand!
