Tiny Friends Farm Hamster Food?
After reading a lot of opinions, I came to the conclusion that in the U.S., Hazel Hamster food was probably the best all around option I could find. However, the Supreme Hazel Hamster food is now re-formulated with lower protein under the Tiny Friends Farm logo. Does anyone have an opinion about this new formulation of the food? Is it still a good food or has it dropped down with the other mediocre choices we have in this country?

I'm not sure. I know our Harry Hamster has also rebranded the same but I'm not sue if they've changed our formula as well. I think your food choices are bit limited, aren't they? Maybe you could stick with that & supplement the protein with a little cooked chicken or boiled egg? I'll let someone who properly understands nutrition comment further

Re: Tiny Friends Farm Hamster Food?
I really don't think it changed much tbh, at least from what I can remember of Hazel Hamster before the rebranding, protein is a bit low at 16% but most foods are a bit low in protein so it's still not bad at all, as Velma said just supplement the protein & it should be fine.

Yes I think Harry Hamster has dropped from 18% to 16% protein as well. I would also say use it and supplement a bit. You could add some oxbow essentials on top of the Hazel Hamster and also supplement with high protein treats, chicken as mentioned above, cheese occasionally, half a brazil nut once a week, monkey nuts, dried mealworms.

Harry Hamster Tasty Mix by Supreme's protein level is 18.0%, that's what it says on the bag. Eitherway I've just gone and bought some Selective Science pellets to mix in with the Harry Hamster. However once I've finished with the bag of Harry Hamster I won't be buying it again. Not sure if that helps?

Re: Tiny Friends Farm Hamster Food?
Hi Callum,
My little girl is on P@H hamster food as she only came yesterday.
When she's settled I plan to gradually add in:~
Rolled barley with raspberry this cleans rodents blood, prevents kidney problems
and strengthens/stimulates digestive tract & boosts immune system. 1x1 a week
Lucerne linseed pellets good for fur and high fibre. 1x2 a week
Beetroot pellets improves colon activity. 1x1 a week
Herbal nuggets Alfalfa with linseed binding, wheat, mint, rosemary and
oregano. As a treat if other food eaten
Degu Dazzle beetroot chips, carrot flake, tomato flake and seeds, leek flake,
milk thistle seeds, buckwheat, astragalus root, flat peas, millet heads,
organic toasted flakes, norfolk oats and barley. 1/4 teaspoon every other day with regular food.
Carousel Mix butternut bark, liquorice root, lemongrass, yellow peppers, uva ursi leaves,
meadowsweet, luci chop, nettle root, nettle leaves, fennel seeds, hemp seeds. It has organic jumbo oats but I'll take these out as she has enough in her other mixes. 2x a week.
Dried Hibiscus flower good for blood pressure and calms the nerves. This is part of my medicine cabinet if there has been stress.(works for people too)
Purple Marshmallow flowers, loved by small furries and great for tummy problems (works for people too).
My late twin used this recipe on her rats and hamster and all had long healthy lives (her Syrian Plato was 4 when he died).
All are organic with no added sugar or sweetener so ideal for my little one.
She will also gets scrambled or mashed boiled egg and chicken.
She's currently chewing on part of a deer antler (a visit to a friend in the New Forest where they shed them in his garden) but when I next have a roast she can have a chicken bone too.
If you do give bones make sure they are thick ones and keep an eye for it splintering when chewed.
Hope this helps :~)

Re: Tiny Friends Farm Hamster Food?
LucyCaitlyn those are some very healthy additions to a hams diet but I do wonder about the degu daazzle as both tomato seeds & leeks are considered unsuitable or unsafe for hams by most sources.

The old packaging says 18% and the newest packaging (Tiny Friends) is 16%
I'd also avoid Raspberry leaves too (not sure if you meant leaves or berries Lucy) - I've noticed they're recommended in various places but can have hormonal effects - even in humans they can cause high oestrogen or miscarriages if the dosage isn't right, or after more than 3 months use.
Rodipet sell herbs and supplements that are balanced out for hamsters. I stick with the Rosewood Dandelion sticks which have gnawing benefits for teeth too with the wood in the centre. And the occasional dandelion root (zooplus sell them in a bag) which Charlie goes potty for and drags it into his house.
