Re: Best food?
If you get live ones you need to know how to keep them in good condition & feed them then kill them before giving to your ham or they can bite!
Look for freeze dried, you'll find them.

Re: Best food?
These are the ones I purchased. Are they the right ones? It doesn't say for hamsters.

Re: Best food?
Hi Caboose! I live in the US too, so I understand how hard it is to find the very best hammy food for your little darlings!
I normally use a combinations of foods to give my hammy the very best of diets! You can find all three at Petsmart (and I'm sure they have it at Petco to, I just don't have a Petco where I live!).
I will leave links for all the foods if I can find it!
Oxbow Food Pellets
Forti Diet Pro Health
VitaKraft Vitasmart Complete Nutrition
I also subsitute in a bunch of veggies and homemade treats (you can find a TON of recipes for these on Youtube!) throughout my hammy's diet!
I hope this helps you!

Re: Best food?
I also use Alfalfa hay for my hammy! Sometimes this can be harder to find, but I normally get mine from a store called Petsupermarket. You should be able to get it at Petco or even off Amazon!
Although, I'm not too sure that you can buy it from Petsmart. (They don't sell it at my store.)

Re: Best food?
Those mealworms are fine, they are never sold for hams so it won't say anything about that.
That Forti-Diet Pro Health Mouse & Rat Food has way too much sugar for a hybrid climber.
The VitaSmart Complete Nutrition Hamster looks better although with all those ingredients I might have missed something!

Re: Best food?
I combine Mazuri Rat & Mouse lab blocks mixed with Higgins Sunburst. I think that Mazuri used to make these lab blocks for hamsters but stopped doing so. But the ingredients are the same as the Rat & Mouse? I got this information from another forum, as the best US food combination, as Oxbow doesn't offer enough variety. I also supplement with meal worms but my hamsters like the Mazuri better than the Oxbow or Kaytee Forti Diet. I'm new to this forum so apparently there are differences of opinions between the forums? I'd go with whatever Cypher recommends, since I'm not an expert at all in nutrition. Just relaying information?

Re: Best food?
Cinnamon Bear as I said before in this thread the Mazuri Rat & Mouse lab blocks aren't suitable for hams, the protein is too high & the fibre too low, oxbow has quite a good range of ingredients although the protein does need supplementing.
