Re: Best food?
The Mazuri Rat & Mouse is too high in protein & too low in fibre, rats, mice & hamsters all have quite different requirements so I would always be wary of any food that claims to be for more than one species tbh.
Ideally you want to find a food that has around 19% protein, 5% fat (a bit higher is ok) & 8-10% fibre & no sugar or fruit.
Have a look at this thread for some ideas.

Re: Best food?
I'm not sure if any of the vitakraft foods are available in the US? but anyway, unfortunately being in the US you won't get a simple answer with lots of people posting that they all recommend the same food, hopefully with the info posted here if you look around online or in stores you will know if what you find is a good healthy mix or not.

Re: Best food?
Can you tell me what you think of this food? Also what fruits and veggies are best for my little girl. I know sunfire is prone to diabetes.

Re: Best food?
Oxbow is a good food but the protein is low so you would need to supplement with things like a tiny bit of plain chicken once or twice a week, a meal worm or two daily & there's also some protein in any extra seeds you might give her too.
With veg stick mostly to greens, things like broccoli, cabbage (only very small amounts), kale, pak choi, romaine lettuce (again only very small amounts), celery, cucumber.
Things like bell peppers, mange toute or sugar snap peas or baby corn (not the large corn but the tiny little ones which are lower in sugar) are ok as occasional treats for diabetes prone species, I would avoid most of the sweeter veg like carrot, squash or pumpkin, potato & sweet potato & avoid fruit for the most part, mine do very occasionally get maybe half a blueberry or a tiny tiny piece of apple (no skin or pips) but that's it.
There are other safe veg but that's about all I can think of just now!

Re: Best food?
The meal worms what are those? I've never heard of them and where would I get them.

Re: Best food?
I feed my birds broccoli and romaine lettuce as well. What is considered a small amount.

Re: Best food?
Most people say about a thumbnail size piece for veg.
Freeze dried mealworms are often found either in the reptile or bird section of pet stores.

Re: Best food?
I found the meal worms on petco website. They are shipped alive by the hundreds. Are these the ones I need?
