Kiwi I even find myself to be too acidic, I personally wouldn't feed them to a ham so I can see why that's one to avoid. I don't get the grapes thing but it won't hurt me to leave them out of the ham diets since Cc doesn't like them anyway.

Pets at home can be okay and flipping dreadful depending on your store and even your staff member, I'd never take anything they say as gospel. At the end of the day they're a retail outlet, not a vets.

I've just read a hamster blog and it had a section about if hamsters can eat grapes . And it said they can eat them as long as we remove the skin and seeds (if there's any seeds) . So maybe it's the skin that's poisonous . Or they're talking about the grapes that have seeds in them maybe ?? Or like shannon said , maybe they are too acidic...

I don't think its that grapes are too acidic, just saying that's what the issue is with kiwi and other citrus fruits. I'm guessing people are playing it safe and advising not to feed them to hams since they know they're poisonous to dogs.

It's the seeds that are poisonous it's the same with dogs. The rest is ok as far as I know but the skin can contain high levels of pesticides. Willow likes grapes, and raisins r just dried grapes and she likes those too

No, the whole of a grape is toxic to dogs. Very important! They can cause renal failure in very small amounts.

I tend to err on the side of caution. I prefer my grapes to be seedless. My hams and gerbils have had grapes...a small bit, in the past. However, if there are conflicting views about a food, I'd rather be safe and I stop giving it until it is clearly approved. With all the foods hams are allowed, it's no big deal to remove one from their diet. My dwarfs never get fruit...only veggies. Basically, the dwarfs only get broccoli, string beans, romaine and celery. They really don't need more than that.

The Syrians will get carrot, peas, corn and the veggies the dwarf hammies get, along with fruit too.
So basically, I get to eat the grapes all by myself.

Good point - raisins are dried grapes! I do give raisins now and then. Think I'll stick to apple and banana as occasional fruit treats.

I tend to err on the side of caution too, if in doubt about anything generally I won't feed it but when something like grapes (with no seeds) & raisins (which are even in some ham food mixes) have been tried & tested & fed for years without any signs of toxicity then someone pipes up & says they can be poisonous I do have my doubts especially in light of the fairly recent efforts to make people more aware of the problem with dogs, I don't get the connection or see any evidence.

Eek thanks for putting us straight about the dogs barley! I've only done proper reading about hamster s and picked up the dog info from random neighbours. My friend didn't believe me about grapes n dogs as she sometimes gives her corgi cross 'dustbin-dog' grapes with no ill effects. She is a pretty robust dog though!
