Re: Are any of these herbs hamster safe?
I have seen quite a few photos of set ups with plants in but never from anyone who regularly updates on their ham or cages tbh, that doesn't mean it can't be done or those photos aren't out there somewhere but might indicate how difficult it is!
I really wouldn't use any fake plants.

Re: Are any of these herbs hamster safe?
The only pet 'safe' fake plants that I can think of would be aquaruim/vivarium type things but I don't think they'd survive long in a hamster cage, given how rodents love to chew.

Re: Are any of these herbs hamster safe?
Thank you all so much for the input. I have considered ones for lizards and fish, BUT I assume that those are pet safe simply because the pets they're marketed to DON'T chew. I would be afraid of a ham chewing them, I think.

I wouldn't recommend live plants, some people have pieces of wood in the cage though which gives a similar look I think there's something on ErinsAnimals' channel on how to make it safe

Re: Are any of these herbs hamster safe?
Here is something I tried in my cage - we grew some of our budgie's seed, so lots of different types of millet grasses - it was supposed to be as a treat for the budgie but he wasn't interested
But I picked some and hung it in a warm place to dry - it stayed looking quite green and I poked bits in Smokey's cage here and there, it looked decorative and I knew it wouldn't hurt her if she decided to eat it.
Of course she has destroyed most of the evidence now! But some of it lasted for a few days or so before she decided to attack it! I want to grow more to dry next year.
I was trying to find a photo showing it but this is the best I could find -

Re: Are any of these herbs hamster safe?
What if I could find a way to mount up a spice rack, and fill it with the hamster safe organic herbs for a few hours every day?
Amazon.com: DecoBros 2 Pack Wall Mount Single Tier Mesh Spice Rack, Chrome: Kitchen & Dining
That way it's more for looks, but it should theoretically keep the hamster away from the soil when the small ceramic pots are in there. And I could easily take them out at night if they produce carbon dioxide at night.

Something like this, for example, maybe. I could put the ceramic bowls on the top section, and use the bottom section for something else...
Amazon.com: Two-Tier Natural Bamboo Spice Rack: Kitchen & Dining
I think I saw bamboo on the safe woods list, too.

Re: Are any of these herbs hamster safe?
Hi again Jenibelle. I wouldn't put plants in a tank. You want to watch how much fresh food, and plants are fresh foods, you give at a time. Dried plants done the way Scarlet Empress does it is fine. There is no moisture in it anymore. When we give fresh foods, whether it's dandelion, romaine lettuce, peas or green beans, it's only a piece about the size of your fingernail. Hamsters can get diarrhea from too much fresh veggies and fruit. So, small amounts, at least until hammy gets used to it.
