Question Food / Treat organisation.

I like to keep EVERYTHING in order, but I feel like there is a better way to keep Zak's things organised, I'm not a huge fan of packets and wrappers everywhere (especially considering most wrappers are heat sealed and not resealable!), so everything finds it's way into sealable sandwich bags eventually with Sharpie written labels.

I was wondering if this way is okay considering everything sits in plastic all day every day until he eats them.

Zak's every day food is in a plastic tub, in case anyone's wondering I currently have a mix of
JR Dwarf Hamster Feast
&
Burgess Dwarf Hamster Harvest.

In the food bags there are,
Wood fruit nibbles, round wood nibbles, carrot bordem busters
Mealworms
Red/ Purple heart treats
Green heart treats
Yellow heart treats
(I'm a major nut for colour co-ordinating, Zak does get a random mix of the colours though)
Pets At Home Nibblot treats (Carrot, Apple and Berries, given sparingly!)
Wilkinsons Fruity & Carrot Nibbles.

I think that's everything suitable for a Dwarf Hamster nutrients wise (as nutrient as treats get, anyway!), he does get cucumber, broccoli, grapes, cherries and rarely a small bit of apple or banana.
If there's anything I've missed or anyone knows of a safer (if there is one) way of storing his things please let me know, as below everything is in food bags, sealed and then placed into an old (but clean) shoe box which sits in my side table in the front room (which is now known as Zak's table since everything in or on it is Zaks )

How do you organise your Hamsters odds & ends?

The most important thing is just to keep everything cool & dry so those bags are fine so long as they're in a place with a reasonably stable temperature.
It all looks quite organised to me!

There does seem to be quite a lot of fruit in your collection, I wouldn't give a dwarf banana at all, I haven't seen some of those treats so I don't know what's in them but I would check all the ingredients carefully & avoid things with fruit or any kind of sugar.
A little of the less sweet fruits like apple or blueberry as an occasional treat is ok but I wouldn't give more than that & carrots are sweet too so not too much of that either.

He only gets a sweet fruit every so often, I've had everything okayed by a vet nurse, but she said strictly in proportion and less fruit is more. He has had one fruity nibble in 2months and as for fresh it's normally always brocolli or cucumber, I am reluctant to give him fruit or carrots anyway since he does have them in treat form, so that's on a veeeeery special occasion.

The nibblot treats are strictly once a month thing on a week he's had no fruit or carrot so that's all in small doses etc. He's only had a tiny chunk of Apple & my friend gave him a tiny bit of banana before today when he was looking after Zak but once I told him not to he said it wasn't going to happen again unless I okayed it first (which I wont xD)

So everything up there has been okayed as has my super strictness with when and how much he can have of everything

So in short everything is in moderation and I keep a note of when the sugary / fruit treats are given so there isn't a risk of him getting too much to increase his risk of diabetes etc

Wow that looks very organized!

I know what you mean about having wrappers and packets all over the place - I thought it would be a great idea if I organized Smokey's treats into the small Really Useful Boxes that I previously kept craft bits in. And I put the boxes, in their little holder, under the cage so that they were easily to hand when I want to give her a treat.

Unfortunately Smokey has decided to reorganize it all to her own liking - she pulled the boxes out, got the lids off, and used the plastic organizer as a food stash!

That all looks pretty snazzy despite the re-organise
Where did you get those tubs from? I've been looking for something like that for ages. They would be perfect!

I would like to put it all back how I wanted it - but she worked so hard on it, I don't want to upset her!

I got my boxes from Hobbycraft - I think you can also get them from The Range and lots of places where they sell stationery etc and they come in al sorts of sizes and colours, either individually or with the box to organize them in - here's a nice set on Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Really-Usefu...y+useful+boxes

Actually I think that set might be the really little ones...I can't remember what size mine are, I'll check!

Hello! Currently I keep the main food in ziplock bags as well, but treats/seed etc I keep in glass spice jars from IKEA. Keeps everything pretty looking.

I've recently organised May's treat box after seeing something on Vectis Hamstery's Facebook page.

Her food is kept in tubs like this: George Home Clip Lid Food Storer 5 Litres | View all Kitchen & Dining | ASDA direct

Ooh that looks so good, also reminds me I've lost Zak's bag of those sticks!
Looks like I'm going on a hunt today then!
