Default Fresh Herbs

Hello

I'm getting a Syrian sometime after this months payday cage is almost ready etc but i'd like to know if i can grow fresh herbs to give Mr/Miss ham?

I picked up some parsley seeds the other day thinking that would be nice to give once it's grown but what other herby suggestions do people have?

I'm going to grow them potted inside so no chemicals or products will be on any etc

I'd love to here your suggestions

Hi Cashew You can give hamsters parsley. In fact I've even heard that it's actually very good for their digestive system! Spinach is something else you could maybe grow for your hamsters.

But do you mean you plan on growing the herbs inside their cage??

Hi x Not in the cage no On my kitchen window sil in little trays or pots, to pick when its at the right growth stage, to give a few times a week hopefully.

Oh brilliant, always a bonus if it were beneficial also. All sorts of seeds were on sale when i did my groceries but i only picked up the parsley but as i wasn't sure about the rest until i'd looked up about them

Mostly just looking for favorites or definite no goes

Thanks x

My hamsters really enjoy the occasional oregano leaf. I would have thought them too strongly falvoured but they love them. You can also get dandelion seeds from some specialty shops that are meant for human consumption. They're a very nice, large-leaved type and you can even get a red-leaf variety!

That makes sense, it's a really nice idea

There's a hamster central list of safe and unsafe foods that is my favourite thing to check and is reassuring for confirming definite no goes: Safe and Unsafe Food and Plants - Hamster Central WIKI Apparently basil and mint are good herbs for them too!! I guess if parsley is good for their digestion then other herbs might be too, presumably for the same reasons that herbs are good for humans too... Plus it's a good source of natural fiber

Hope that's helpful!!

This mix is more wild plants than herbs but it's really good to grow for hams, all mine enjoy it & all the plants are safe.

My girl loves thyme. rosemary, parsley, oregano, marjoram...she gets quite excited when she gets them, and I pick some bits to dry for her if it's warm and sunny too, which she also enjoys.

Aww thanks so much everyone, I'll look through the list of safe and unsafe and then pick out some other seeds to grow, I love the look of the wild seed mix also so I might grow a small tray with that to mix things up about

Hopefully it will all go well xx
