Meal Worms
So I just bought a small package of freeze dried mealworms for my 2 Russian Dwarf hamster. How many and when should I give the mealworms to them? They get an unlimited amount of food right now because they are still young but I want to make sure that I'm not over doing it with the mealworms

Re: Meal Worms
i'd say about two or three each for a dwarf hamster. I know that 3 - 5 is what most people say but for now i'd keep it at the minimum especially if you're offering other fatty, high protein foods.

Re: Meal Worms
2-3 a day? They get Oxbow Essential hamster food and a seed mix everyday and that its other than the odd treats

Re: Meal Worms
Feed the mealworms every other day, because it's a new food i'd keep it at two or three for now. After a while if they seem to love them you can feed a couple more I'm no expert on dwarves so im not sure about portion size really.

Re: Meal Worms
Most dwarfs go mad for mealworms (although I do have one who doesn't like them!) & I generally give one or two most days.

Re: Meal Worms
Neither my Syrian nor my Robo are very keen on mealworms. I tend to give them both a couple a week but they're never eaten particularly quickly!

Re: Meal Worms
I've always bought the Burgess Dwarf Hamster Harvest for my hamsters and that mix includes mealworms. I can't remember how many you'd get in an average sized portion but they were always the first thing that Meat used to go for when I put his food out.

Re: Meal Worms
My syrian won't touch them either. I bought two little tubs of dried mealworms, crickets and shrimp (Mucki protein supplement on zooplus) and she won't even look at any of it!
