Porridge?
Can hamsters have porridge if the only ingredients are water and porridge oats?

Re: Porridge?
As far as I know hamster cannot have actual porridge with water or milk or whatever. However Im pretty sure they can have the porridge oats. Just make sure you don't give hamsters cooked porridge. If your still not sure there is stuff on the Internet!

Re: Porridge?
Here's something from the Southern Hamster Club about it: What can I feed my hamster?
I've given it to my oldest Chinese on occasions and he's really enjoyed it.

Re: Porridge?
I use rolled oats and water, and it works out fine.
I had some Quaker stuff earlier with maple and brown sugar and one of our little ones stole a teeny bit, but I wouldn't give that sugary stuff on regular occasion.

I agree with those saying they can. Even a tiny bit of milk on rare occasions doesn't seem to do much harm - hence some feeding various forms of yoghurt on occasion

Re: Porridge?
Thank you, cookie loved this and am going to make a little more as it just seems to interest her more than the plain oats

Re: Porridge?
I'm with the majority, porridge oats and some water/milk is fine. In fact it is a really good food when a hamster is poorly and not eating their dry mix.
Science Selective is a biscuit complete hamster food and I have given this as a porridge, mixing some of the biscuits with some water to make them mushy. I know to RacingHamster they smell like gravy but to me they smell malty like beer! Either way, we and others have had great success in giving this mix to various hamsters, especially when unwell and it provides lots of hamster rich nutrients too.
Here's a link for those who don't know the packaging, always good to have some in the hamster store cupboard.

Re: Porridge?
I give all of my hamsters cooked porridge with either milk or water and they all love it. Just a small amount is fine usually.

I'll agree that they have a slight smell to them but I've been feeding them to Meat these last couple of months and he really loves it. As Meat's a very elderly hamster, he's really gone off of his usual Dwarf Hamster Harvest so I've been feeding him a combination of this, porridge and a little bit of baby food every so often and he seems perfectly happy with that.
