LOL bay leaf is quite pungent! Seems a bit odd to put that in.

I use a mix of seed/hamster diet and lab blocks, but I'm using Native earth rodent blocks (which supposedly meet the requirements of multiple species). I crunch up some blocks, add some hamster diet / seed mix, and some extras like millet, freeze-dried chicken / meal worms, dried pasta, oats, etc. They do pick through it, but I've started leaving it in a day or two longer so that they have to eat some of the bits they don't prefer, then I change out with fresh. The lab blocks I'm mainly including to get the vitamins and minerals they contain. None of the food I give contains grass / hay, which is in a lot of pelleted hamster food (I think those are the bits they leave behind a lot). I don't think it would hurt to include rodent blocks in your diet, just make sure they are a good block without grass or corn.

thanks everyone--- unfortunately the rodent blocks for rats and mice are molasses and CORN based....
Think I may give the rest to my Flemish Giant rabbit, since he would eat it in a flash and it can't hurt him. (He loves to eat)

Eww.... Maybe see if your local stores carry oxbow? I know they make a rat and a mouse block which are supposedly good.. The rat one is low in protein, not sure about the mouse one, but you could include extras like meal worms and freeze dried chicken to increase the protein.
