Bunny treats
Hi, are any bunny safe treats suitable for hamsters? I know that some dog treats are, but not all, but as rabbits have to be very careful - like hamsters - assume that their treats are also safe for hammies? Thanks!

Re: Bunny treats
I did read some where that rabbit specific food & treats weren't hamster safe due to an additive they put in just for rabbits but I'm sure if that's a universal thing. I also assume that rabbit specific treats are more veggie/leaf based & might also have too high a water content.

Re: Bunny treats
If you look in the Wiki section on safe foods it says "The one important thing to remember is to not buy treats specifically designed for rabbits. Rabbits can often carry a parasite called Coccidia and so most products manufactured for rabbits contain a drug to combat this parasite. Hamsters dont seem to be able to get coccidia or are very unlikely to come into contact with it and so dont need this drug. This drug will actually make them very sick.

Re: Bunny treats
That'e it! I knew I didn't imagine it. I think I read it somewhere else. Or saw it on YouTube. But I knew I'd come it across it

Re: Bunny treats
Thank you very much; very informative.
The treats I buy for my bunnies are also safe for guinea pigs as well as there's a picture of both rabbit and gp on the packet; does that make a difference? And what if there's a picture of a hamster too? I'm off to Pets at Home tomorrow and wanted to get some treats, that's all. Thanks again!

Re: Bunny treats
I guess if they are generically small animal treats they are ok, just not the rabbit only ones

Re: Bunny treats
I'd agree that some treats made for all small rodents are probably ok but I don't trust something just because it has a picture of a ham on the pack! I'd check the ingredient list before buying anything.
