Default Can hamsters eat grubs and worms?

I'm curious as we have a lot as we garden frequently. The grubs are plentiful but I am concerned of course if they are toxic. Also, we haven't treated anything with pesticides this year but I am worried about the left overs from previous years..or run-off rain. In any case it seems safer to not. Thoughts?

I really wouldn't recommend this. Although hamsters are omnivores, I would only give them tiny pieces of cooked protein like chicken etc. but it has to be cooked. Thoroughly washed veggies and some fruits are fine though xx

Cooked meat is better for them such as chicken, you can get freeze dried or live mealworms from petstores. Also veggies and fruit

I'd say definitely not too. Grubs could mean anything, do you even know what they are? Insects don't stick to one garden so you have no idea if they've been feeding on plants with pesticides or other chemicals on them.

I agree with the others. Even if the grubs were ok to eat they may be carrying disease or just dirt from outside that could be bad for hams. I think I am right in saying that anything brought in from outside like leaves, pine cones and wood branches needs sanitising in some way as mouse diseases could be spread to hamsters. Hamsters don't have immunity to deal with diseases that are from a 'foreign' country. It's home to us out there but not to them!

NO! And slugs carry lungworm. Anything in a garden could have eaten poison from a neighbours garden or be carrying a parasitic infection. It`s much safer to buy a packet of dry mealworms from a pet store and stick to safe foods. x
