Changing hamsters diet?

As racinghamsters says they do look more like biscuits than pellets but as they are a complete food and as there is no foraging needed I think they sort of come under the blanket of pellets, they certainly look and smell better than a traditional pellet though
I never thought of that Cypher but yes they are quite big so for a dwarf hammie that pestle and mortar will be needed Why do I love the sound of that lol, grinding your own hamster biscuits just sounds sort of nice, I may have to try that today, just for a bit of fun lol
I'm not sure if or how many of them Willow and Ebony actually eat, they both had a little stash of them in their nests the other day but Hazel definitely eats one or two each day in preference to her Harry Hamster food and anything that she actually eats definitely gets my tick if approval

I think a nice pestle & mortar will much more fun than the old rolling pin & plastic bag job! I already do that with some of the bigger bits in the JR farms food, they won't touch the big biscuit bits but seem to enjoy them broken up, being as it's a dwarf food I have no idea why it has such big bits in it!
No foraging is my biggest problem with biscuit/pellet type food but if I grind them up they can forage for crumbs & it won't be their one & only food so we'll see how it goes....

I got my pestle & mortar in a charity shop, I think I payed £4.00p for it. It`s been a great wee tool for breaking up larger things like extruded biscuits, whole nuts and it can also be used for mashing/combining things together.

cypher, just give one of the heart shaped biscuits a light` tap` as they break into smaller pieces easily. Stick your nose in the bag (it comes sealed for freshness) and you will smell the gravy smell I was on about! x

I've been meaning to get a pestle & mortar for ages tbh but it was you mentioning it a few times that reminded me to actually do it so thanks

They do come in handy. I had to use one when I had my gerbil who had tooth problems and it was great for breaking and mashing things up. x

I've not tried Hector with the supreme science heart shaped thingies but If I do I'll certainly try breaking one up. Good tip. Thanks I have tried them with Cleo though & she loved them. I've given her a couple a night for the past two days & fed by hand & she seems to really enjoy them. Well she must do, she ate them not pouched them. As she's quite shy & rally monkey comes to see me for food it's quite nice to have a food rather than a treat to bribe her with (the fact they are heart shaped & cute has nothing to do with it....)

Its great to hear Cleo gives them the tick of approval too I can't tell you how ecstatic I was when Hazel actually ate one, now if only Harry Hamster came in heart shapes she might eat some of that too LOL

Thanks guys. After posting this I went ahead and ordered the foods anyway and they arrived today.
My hamsters are buggars for selectively feeding with HH, that's why I want a mix, because if they don't eat a certain thing, something else will likely make up for it.
As for quantities i'm using 750g of HH, 750g of Burgess and 350g of Science and then mix it all up and give the hammies their food from that every day
