How much does a hamster usually eat?

I filled up May's food bowl yesterday evening and I come down this morning to discover that the whole lot is gone and there's only crumbs left. On top of this she also had a piece of cucumber yesterday evening as well.

I've not checked her food store yet as she'd been keeping a few bits in her house and I didn't want to wake her this early but I was really quite surprised.

I filled up her bowl with at least three tablespoons worth of food and that would usually have lasted Meat about three days but he's not a huge hoarder. Should a twelve week old Chinese eat this much?

Mine can easily hoard that much! I doubt very much she's eaten all that, she's probably made a nice big stash somewhere.

That's what I'm hoping.

My boys had never hoarded this much but apparently my sister's russian is a hoarder.

Yup, I think cyphers right. Our hams can store loads but I doubt a chinese'd eat all that in a night!

Bracken regularly has a phase when she'll empty her food bowl and move it to her store, then out of the blue, she'll stop for a month or so. I guess she knows what she is doing, who am I to question.

Rue, on the other hand, doesn't have much of a hoard at all.

I can give Bracken her favourite treats, sunflower seeds but I know that they go straight to her larder....how do I know because her house is overflowing when I clean it out, full of...sunflower seeds and the rest!

I checked her store yesterday evening and it was all in there and when I came down this morning I notice she's done it again.

Is it worth me reducing the food I've given her to encourage her to eat what she's got in her store?

I wouldn't keep filling her bowl each day but let her keep a fair size stash & just feed a small but adequate amount each day, you could try scatter feeding too so she has to forage for her food rather than just taking it straight from the bowl to her stash.

I scattered some food whilst she was out for her run this evening and when I put her back she seemed to be having fun seeing what she could find. She's got a huge stash of food in her house though, I swear it'd be enough to fill her food bowl.
