I use a pestle & mortar to `tap` any larger extruded biscuits in a mix to break them into smaller pieces as this usually encourages the hamster to eat them. Especially dwarf hamsters. Grass pellets rarely get eaten, but it`s best to include these just in case the hamster decides to eat one every now and then. Using more than one hamster mix is beneficial also as it offers more variety if the two mixes are different in ingredients. x

My hammy does exactly the same!!!!!

I think these are fillers that the company puts in to bulk out the bag, and they have basically no nutritional value so I wouldn't worry.
Is the Harry hamster mix a good one though? (I'm thinking of weaning my hammy onto this as i've heard a few good things about it, but i'm not entirely sure!)

Most hams do leave those bits but they aren't put in as fillers, they contain some of the fibre content & if it's a mix that has the vitamins sprayed on to the whole mix then they will contain those too.
It doesn't seem to harm any of the hams that don't eat them, they still seem to get a balanced diet but I wouldn't consider anything in your mix a filler.

I read so often about hamsters not eating those pellets and I must admit that Ebony and Hazel usually leave them too, (well Hazel leaves everything so that doesn't really count LOL), but they are the first thing Willow goes for, she just loves them I do agree with Cyoher, they are in the mix for a reason but hamsters are all different and they can't all like everything can they so it stands to reason they will eat what they like best first and leave what they don't like Personally I don't think it's a problem if they leave the odd bits out

Rupert is still very picky, he's quite funny as when I feed him he rushes to his food bowl and pouches all his favourite bits and then begrudgingly rummages through what's left!

I brought him some Woodlands clover & plantain dried mix from Pets At Home and he doesn't like that either! Also got him Vitakraft Nibble Rings... and guess what, he doesn't like those either! Although I have found if I break them into little pieces he at least takes them to his food store rather than leaving them in the bowl.

Funny little things aren't they
