Question A little advice needed...

Hi, I got Chibi today, he is already active, but I gave him a nature nibble bar as well as his food, he is barely touching his food but eats the bar. I took it off him, should I give it back or give it as a every now and again thing? I want him to eat his healthy food. It's harry hamster since that's what he was on in the shops.

When you first get hamsters it is often very stressful for them, and often their anxiety and stress levels are much higher than usual at this time. Because of this, he needs to be able to be introduced into a cage that is going to have no changes to it in the next couple of weeks, to avoid any more stress put onto him. Therefore he should only be eating his Harry Hamster and not any other big things like nibble bars. As he slowly becomes more used to your presence, you can give him back the bar, but only as an occasional thing, otherwise he will only eat that, and not the food that is best for him. Treats can be fed in moderation, and are very helpful in the taming process.

Hopefully this helped - congratulations on your new hammie. Hopefully he will be very happy in his new home!

Thank you. I may use the bar in taming then.

I would give him back the bar, it's not fair to give and then take away! You've not had him long and he needs to be able to settle and adjust to his new surroundings, you should be leaving him to do that for at least 3 to 4 days. He will eat his food in time. But, I've always had a bar in the cages of mine when I first get them.

I'd leave it in there too since he's had it anyway, I think its nice he's enjoying a treat you gave him really. Chances are he'll still eat at least some of his food
