Default Mealworms and mineral Blocks

Hi,

I was wondering if it is safe to feed hamsters freeze dried mealworms, the kind you buy for wild birds. I thought it might make a good treat now and then but only if it is safe. Also should you buy a mineral/vitamin stone lick?

The mealworms you feed birds are deep fried, so can be very fatty for your ham. I think they tend to be the cheap ones. I'm not sure where you get the freeze dried knew form but they are better. Although I only have the deep fried ones as we feed the birds so I very occasionally let my syrian have one as a treat.

You do have to search around a bit for freeze dried mealworms, they are still sold for birds (or reptiles) but it should say freeze dried on the pack or online & they do cost more than the cheap fried ones, worth it as they go a long way & make a great protein treat.
Mineral blocks aren't really essential for a ham but some enjoy them so you could give it a try.

Rupert doesn't really like meal worms, although I think I probably have the fried ones as they were 99p for a big bag, so I'll perhaps look for the dried ones next time I'm where they sell them.

He has a mineral/salt lick but I think I have seen him sniff it once at that is it!
