Default Dried meal worms

I find these just awful, but they were in a dwarf hamster mix I bought and my dwarfs seem to love them! So I thought I would try Ethel (syrian) with one last night. He came to me to take it, but he kind of licked the end and then screwed his face up, twitched and ran away from me into his house! He sulked all night after that, I couldn't even bribe him with broccoli. Has anyone else found this with syrians??

lol! they do know what they do & don't like!
It does seem quite common for syrians not to like them so much, more of a dwarf treat generally although it's down to the individual ham really.

Haha he really does make me laugh. It's kind of how I imagine I'd react if someone tried to feed me a mealworm. Though maybe I wouldn't have licked it haha. I was kind of hoping none of them would like the meal worms because I really shudder when I have to touch them!

Mine were like that when I tried them with dried crickets, I never knew a ham could look so disgusted lol!
It's the smell I don't like & the canned ones.... ick!!

I know!! The little look he gave me 'what did you just try to feed me?!'. Oo I don't think I could do crickets, I'd probably have to handle them with tweezers!

My girls, all dwarf hams love their mealworms, I have to limit them with Rue as she'd eat the whole tub given the chance but when I had my niece's two Syrian hams, I tried to share with them but they weren't interested at all, not that the girls were concerned, as they were pleased not to have to share with the distant cousins.

I think my dwarfs would as well! When I checked the food bowls all the meal worms and sunflower seeds had gone. Looks like I'll have to get over my squeamishness!

I have a large tub, Heather and just occasionally there seems to be movement within the tub and the thought goes through my mind briefly as to whether there are some live mealworms, of course, my logic quickly dismisses the notion and reasons that it's just settlement. I do have to make sure the lid goes on quickly however because the smell is awful, to me anyway.

There is great variation in the price of mealworms, can't remember where you live but I got my tub from Wilkinsons which worked out at a good price. Their pouches are good value too, on the whole.

Haha! When I first opened this bag of food I didn't really know it had meal worms in it and I just took and handful out and I jumped out of my skin when I saw them. I think I'd throw the whole tub if I thought something moved in it!

Thanks! I'll check in my local wilkinsons next time I go the shops
