I totally agree Thin Lizzy, they have a very distinct pong! I often wonder why our clever sensitive little hammies would eat something that smells like that, but I guess they eat cheese! Do crickets smell too? I might try converting my little ones to non-whiffy/less wormy insects.

I just remember having a sniff of them and felt sick lol!
I've never tried crickets on mine.

Crickets smell even worse! Not quite as bad as the silk worm pupae things though, even my hams turned their little noses up at those lol!
I'd stick with less smelly dried mealworms & avoid the canned ones, hams love them but the smell is awful!

Once you open the can of mealworms, do you need to store it in the fridge?

Yes you do need to keep them in the fridge Lizzy, they say they only keep for about a week but to discard them if they show any signs of going off, now how you tell when they smell soooo bad in the first place I have no idea lol!
They do come in tiny cans but even with 3 most of it has to get binned, still worth getting once in while as they do love them!

Then no way will I be getting them! The thought of mealworms (even if they are dead) in my fridge makes me shudder.
