how much food per day for a dwarf?
Hello!
I think I'm giving my dwarf hamster too much food at once because she is just wasting it. She drops it all on the floor until it's empty. I just kind of fill up her feeding thing. I will include a picture so you know what I'm talking about.
How much should I be giving her?
Thank you!!

Re: how much food per day for a dwarf?
Absolutely, sorry! I think im going to put back in a normal bowl because at least she can go through it without dumping it all out.
The picture isn't very clear still but it attaches where the tubes would and it loads from the top. There are two sort of dividers that keep the food from falling out all at once. I just liked it because it frees up floor space and i dont really want her having tubes, but I'm getting her a bigger cage soon.
But like I said, I put in a normal bowl again.
I was thinking maybe two tablespoons a day??

Glad you're using a bowl. 2 tablespoons is a bit much. Give 1 tablespoon and see how she gets on with that. They say 10 grams is enough daily.

How old is she? Do you give her anything else apart from the mix?

I got her from a per store a few weeks ago. I'd say a few months old. I give her 3 to 5 dried mealworms a day but nothing else right now

Re: how much food per day for a dwarf?
I'd agree about a tablespoon is enough for a dwarf, which mix are you using btw? I'd either use a bowl or just scatter the food in the cage so she can forage for it which is natural behaviour for them & gives them something to do rather than just stuffing their little pouches from the bowl!
You could try giving her some fresh veg everyday, just begin with a little bit & experiment to see what she likes, most love cucumber & broccoli.

You can't go wrong with broccoli and cucumber.
Also a little bit of roast chicken and egg (white bit) are also popular!

Re: how much food per day for a dwarf?
Hamsters hoard food naturally so that little pile in the plastic tube will be where she`s stashed it for later! A tablespoonful is fine daily, but scatter feeding is also fine to allow for some natural foraging behaviour.
Millet/canary seed is good for this or some little pieces of millet spray broken off from the stalk. My Russian dwarf goes mad for millet spray so I only break off an inch piece for him every couple of days. x
