Question Hazel Hamster Food!

Hey everybody!

I've had my hybrid dwarf hamster, Pumpkin Spice for about two months now. I absolutely love him, and try to provide the best care for him. Recently, I found out that the current food I'm using for him is very unhealthy and BAD. (It's the All Living Things hamster food) Horrible, right?! So I went on Amazon to scour the site for good noms for Pumpkin Spice. I came upon 3 possible choices. Hazel Hamster Food, Oxbow Essentials (GOOD food, but I don't know about its sugar levels for Winter White/Campbell's Russian hybrid hamsters), and CareFresh Complete Menu. (Once again, not sure about the sugar levels). I decided to get the most expensive of the three (hopefully won't regret it), which was Hazel Hamster food. Does anyone have any reviews or opinions on this food? Also, if I feed Pumpkin Spice 3-4 tsp. a day, how long does a 2 lb. bag last? It's arriving in the mail tomorrow, so I'll post then when it arrives, but until that time, please tell me if I'm making the right nutritional choice!

I also ordered Ecotrition Cheesie Chews. Any opinions on those (other than they should be fed in moderation)?

Hazel Hamster is a great food; it's one of the favorites here on the forum. It's very good for diabetes-prone species like hybrids, as it doesn't have any high-sugar ingredients. It does have corn, which should be moderated (keep it between 2-3 pieces per feeding or so) bit otherwise doesn't need any alterations. oxbow is good too, it's has no sugar and is nutritionally complete, though slightly low on protein.

I give my two hams a mix of oxbow and hazel hamster. I've been using the same bag of Hazel for about two months now and I've still got quite a lot left. So it goes quite a long way.

I'm not sure about the carefresh diet, but I THINK it has cane molasses in it, if I remember correctly.

My hams both love the ecotrition cheese chews, but they do contain sugar, so I'd be very sparing giving it to a hybrid. You may want to look for sugar-free chews like Whimzees.

Thank you for the info! Just got the food and have started feeding it to my ham! He went straight to his food dish and ate all the Hazel Hamster pieces! As for the cheese chews, I'm definitely giving them in moderation, but he does like chewing on them!
