Re: Mallet varieties?
Ah.. Lol.. I've noticed the " wheat Sprays" have kind of prickly thingys on them- not like thorns, but the plant is somewhat hard, and a bit poky.

.. I try to " soften" the prickly things, by rubbing them with my fingers. Seems to "tame" them down.. Lol.. I'm very excited about the new millet varieties- from what I've read about them, they are very healthy treats. . I didn't know humans could eat them-- hmmm? They are very healthy, I may try a nibble. Hehe.. Thanks? Much Bgirl..

Re: Mallet varieties?
Before rice caught on in Asia millet was the grain of choice! Personally I love it as a breakfast cereal cooked with fruit and spices. It's good to mix it with another grain like oatmeal or amaranth because the combination makes a complete protein
I also like it cooked in savoury dishes. A bit of herb (oregano, thyme) and some garlic, salt, pepper: makes a quick side dish or an easy stuffing for chicken!

Re: Mallet varieties?
Interesting.. I love oatmeal, and we eat a lot of chicken dishes. I'm going to defo try some with oatmeal, and mix up some with on chicken. We eat a lot of fish, too. I bet it's good with fish, and other spices.
I just put one in each of the hams cages- Allie and Candy went right to it, and ate some . Teddie, is still sleeping-- I hope she enjoys hers.

Re: Mallet varieties?
I think my hams have had just about every variety of millet there is & they love them all! Shame we can't always get so many on the spray, just the seeds, but I do give them foxtail & red millet sprays. Dari sprays are another yours might enjoy if you can get them.

Re: Mallet varieties?
Just came across this page which mentions some studies on the benefit of millet on blood sugar that might be of interest.
