Question Homemade hamster mix?

Hello! Has anyone ever made hamste mix or do lots of people do? If people do is it a good thing? Do hamsters get a better diet out of it? Thank you

I was thinking about it when I first got my hamster, because he is diabetes prone and did not eat most of the mix I gave him at the time. I did quite a lot of research and looked at recipes for hamster mixes, but decided against it at the end. I just felt I couldn't be sure that I would really get the right balance and was worried he would get a worse diet in the end. Now I mix two commercial mixes and add a couple of things to it. I think that's what most people do, buy a commercial mix and add bits.

Not at all. I mix Burgess Supa Dwarf Hamster Harvest and Supreme Science Selective Hamster and I'm adding buckwheat and hemp seeds. I also give him a handful of the jr farm garden herbs about once a week. Then once a week he get a bit of nutritional yeast and half a cricket and two to three times a week an extra meal worm and a pumpkin seed or a peanut. And I feed fresh vegetables every day.
Hope it helped and wasn't more than you wanted to know.

I saw someone on the forum a while back who made their own mix, but I can't recall who it was >.< sorry. I wanna say it was Hekomi, but I might be wrong.

I mix three different store bought-foods and have a few add-ones that I use For my hams

I agree it would be quite hard to get the balance right making your own mix, I use three separate mixes & rotate them though so they get plenty of variety. The mix I use most of is burgess dwarf hamster harvest too.
Mine get additional mealworms, freeze dried or canned, pumpkin & sunflower seeds, kitten kibble & dog biscuits as well as a seed treat mix I make with budgie tonic seed, hemp, flax. millet, dari & probably a couple of other things I can't remember off hand!

I think you will also have to try out what works for your hamster, because not every hamster likes everything and sometimes their taste changes. My hamster for example does not like harry hamster, even though it is a good mix (cheeky thing only eats the pumpkin and sunflower seeds out of it)!
