Wow! This is all really interesting to hear. It is a shame that dangerous stuff like this is still being sold to the unsuspecting public.

I know this is a bit of topic here but in regards to playsand, how do you pick "safe" sand? I hear a lot of talk about silica in playsand so I'm cautious on which sand I should buy. Can you recommend any good brands that you have used? I live in the US.

Repti Sand is a good one! I have seen pictures and it has almost the same texture as sand, so it's not dusty. It also comes in three colors, but I would recommend getting the white sand! (Or the creamish color, the one that looks like sand! :P) I think the kaytee sand and the superpet sand has been reviewed and people think it is too dusty.

If you're going to use sand, that's not a bad choice. I went to the hardware store (Lowe's) and had them cut ceramic tiles down to precisely fit the cage bottom. Was cheap.
