Sneaky hamster hiding all her food in nest.

Alright. Kit Kat has learned that every time she finishes her hamster food in her bowl she will get new food. Well, now she's gotten into the habit of emptying her food bowl and placing everything in her nest so her bowl can get filled up again.

Do I keep filling up her bowl? If not, then what should I do?

heheh sneaky hammie i think you should have a look on what she is hiding and just make sure there is no rotten food. maybe try to keep less food on the bowl just to see if she gets tired to hid it but as long as she is keeping food with her she is not starving.

Most hammies move their food. They store it so it's hidden and safe for night time snacking.

Freya has one store in a corner house, and she takes her favourite bits into her nest.

I check for anything that is fresh and could go off, that gets taken out the next day.

I leave everything else until I clean out that part of her habitat.

I still give her food and fresh even if she has some in there, just so she can get the full nutritional spread she needs. I find that Freya knows what she needs and doesn't over eat.

Are you filling her bowl more than once a day? As long as she's getting the right amount of food I wouldn't worry about how much she stashes, she'll still eat what she needs & keep some for a rainy day as they do
As MamaHam says just check the stash to make sure nothings going off in there but don't remove all of it when you clean the cage.

Thank you so much for all the input. I'm used to her taking some food but her taking all of it really surprised me. Right now I'm only doing a once day feeding. She's got some Hazel/Harry Hamster food, Oxbow Essentials (she loves these), Harlan 2018. I don't give her Harlan everyday since these take her a while to finish.

She eats all fresh food right away so no worries about rotten food.

I wonder if the winter really is kicking in.
